Bielefeld University has been among the pioneering institutions concerning the development of the new two-tiered (BA/MA) course system. As early as the Winter 2002/2003 semester, a successive transition from the Diplom courses to the new international degree courses was begun.This makes Bielefeld one of the first German universities to introduce the new degrees. The department of Business Management and Economics switched over completely to Bachelor's and Master's degrees as of the 2005/2006 Winter semester. As a result of several years' worth of experience, a well-developed curriculum is now in place to serve the needs of students and entrepreneurs alike. Bielefeld University has implemented the specific structure of consecutive degrees. The Bielefeld model comprises both a major and minor subject of study.  This allows for the integration of previously separate strands of education into a single structure. In other words, you may combine Economics with other courses of study, thus creating a highly individual study profile.
